The association was founded in 1976.
The number of fee-paying members in 2007 is 1161.
It welcomes professors and lecturers, but also assistants, part-time teachers, and doctoral students, become members of your association.
The associations has some members from other parts of the world.

The current Chairperson of the association is  Dr. María Socorro Suárez Lafuente, Professor of English Literature, University of Oviedo. Email: lafuente@uniovi.es
The current Secretary is Dr. Ignacio Palacios, Profesor Titular de Universidad (Full time lecturer), University of Santiago de Compostela.

AEDEAN holds annual conferences.

The association circuates a newsletter entitled Nexus, which is issued twice a year, in March and in October. The latest issues are available online on AEDEAN's website.
It also has an electronic distribution list, to which about 700 members are subscribers; constant and updated information about publications, journals, conferences, calls for papers, as well as other professional issues, are distributed daily through this electronic list.
A directory of members, with updated information about areas of specialization and other professional details, was published in 2001.

AEDEAN publishes a journal entitled Atlantis: one issue in June, the other in December. In 2002 a collection of articles from volume 1 (1979) to volume 23 (2001) was issued on CD-Rom. The whole collection of Atlantis is available online on the journal's website: http://www.atlantisjournal.org
